This is a blog about peoples views on teenagers and how the media stereo type them. Teenagers in the media are often shown as hoodies, cruel or getting into trouble. All these things are not true. Most teenagers are actually loving, kind and helpful, so why do the media show teenagers in this way? Sometimes the media show teenagers in good ways such as "Britain's Got Talent" where young teenagers can shine.
TV
TV stations broadcast programs that show young people are uncaring and do silly things. One program that demonstrates my point is "Young, Dumb and Living Off Mum". The program shows teenagers that are unsuccessful and live off their parents money and lack passion to do well for themselves. Reality shows like these should not be broadcast as they dictate peoples views on teenagers and make them think that all teenagers are alike.
There are positive shows about teenagers, "X Factor" and "Britain's Got Talent". These types of programs show that teenagers and the older generation are alike in their motivation to succeed. I think there should be more programs like this, as they illustrate teenagers in a good and positive way. If there were more of these programs peoples views would change for the better.
FILM
Film companies also stereotype teenagers in bad ways. A good example of this is "Anuvahood". The film is based on a teenager called Kay who gets bail and looses all his possessions to bailiffs. As a result he turns to thieving and drug dealing. I don't think that there should be films like this, that stereotype teenagers in this way. It creates negative views towards young people. I think films like this that get produced should always state at the end that most teenagers aren't like this.
News
Recently in the news there has been a lot of talk about teenagers doing criminal activities. An example of teenage criminality is the England Riots. Between the 6th to the 10th August as there was a riot in relation to the police shooting of Mark Duggan. The riot began in Tottenham and then spread rapidly to all constituencies. I think that the Mark Dugan incident was an excuse to loot.

This video shows how bad some teenagers and young adults were in the English riots. Not all teenagers were on the streets across England, a majority of teenagers were at home watching it on the news and it was a minority that caused distress to the nation.
Conclusion
Overall I think that the media shows teenagers in a bad light. I am getting fed up with how the media stereotype teenagers in this way. I think that media companies should start representing teenagers as civilised human beings in positive stories.
Hope you enjoy my blog and please comment!!!
Very good work Ollie. You clearly show understanding of stereotypes and representation of teenagers. Next time to improve you could include even more examples (so two for film and two for news as well as the two you have done for TV already). Well done.
